#TECH: Smart cleaning robot reports for duty at KLIA2
The cleaning robot entails a suite of cleaning capabilities, which not only cleans large areas (up to 43,400 sq ft), but it helps reduce dependency on manpower resources to give workers opportunities to focus on other cleaning jobs as well as improving clients' service standards.
Sinar Jernih managing director, Datuk Mohd Said Osman said the reason the company is adopting technology in its services is that the cleaning industry relies highly on foreign manpower and the process of hiring these workers can be tiresome.
"We often had to bring in foreign workers for cleaning services and the process was laborious. Therefore, we couldn't solely depend on manpower and needed to leverage on existing technologies instead, which will consequently help our service operations too. We plan to reduce the manpower down to 20 per cent and redeploy the workers to other departments in KLIA2, or wherever the machine is being utilised," he said.
At the cost of RM3 million, The Rex comes in three cleaning modes – sweeping, mopping and scrubbing and has a Super Fast Cleaning feature that can cover the length of a football field in less than two minutes.
The Rex can operate for eight to 10 hours. It also comes with a smart system that can eliminate stains in various surfaces, including tiles, marbles, granite, and others.
This Lionsbot's smart industrial cleaning robot can either be controlled manually or via autopilot, as well as being sustainable as it saves on cleaning chemicals.
The company aims to introduce similar robotic technology for other cleaning services in its offerings like carpet cleaning, toilet cleaning, and external high-rise cleaning too.
"It is our first time using such a machine in KLIA2. We also plan to deploy it to the commercial sector, government complex and hospitals, which is coming soon in big bulk. We also cater to hospital support service, landscaping, etc. Although we have the system and robotic technology prepared, we're currently liaising with our Singaporean partner to look into us based on our needs as a total package," he added.
